Hi, my name is Joseph Diorio. I do anesthesia here at Little Rock Family Dental Care. The name of my anesthesia group is Diorio Anesthesia. We provide anesthesia for dental and all types of oral surgical patients.

I do a quick history and physical. Examine the patient, find out what they’re allergic to. What medications they take, whether or not they’ve had anything to eat or drink, just standard anesthesia questions. Reasons to Choose Sedation Dentistry

Sedation dentistry, which involves the use of sedation to ease along a dental treatment, is used by many different people of different ages and for a variety of reasons.

Sedation dentistry can range from the use of nitrous oxide in which patients are awake and able to respond but are in a deep state of relaxation, to general anesthetics used to put patients fully to sleep. Procedures like fillings, bridges, crowns, extractions, root canals, and cosmetic procedures often require the use of some sort of sedation. It is a very common method of dentistry, and there are many reasons to ask your dentist about whether it is right for you. (more…)

How Wisdom Teeth Impact Dental Health

The third molars, or what’s more commonly referred to as wisdom teeth, typically erupt through the gums in children and adults between the ages of 17 and 25. Having one’s wisdom teeth removed has become a “rite of passage” or sorts, with an estimated 5 million Americans undergoing the procedure each year. But this begs the question: do wisdom teeth really need to be removed?

Only a qualified and licensed dentist or oral surgeon can determine whether or not a patients wisdom teeth should be removed. However, the American Dental Association (ADA) recommends the procedure when one or more of the following symptoms are present:

  • Cysts
  • Tumors
  • Pain
  • Damage to nearby teeth
  • Potential to damage nearby teeth
  • Periodontal
  • Gingivitis
  • Tooth decay
