When you go to the dentist, you probably expect questions about tooth pain, bleeding gums, or whether anything has changed since your last visit. But one part of the appointment can still catch people off guard: having your blood pressure taken before a cleaning, filling, or other treatment.

At first glance, it might seem like that belongs at a medical office, not a dental one. However, there is a very good reason dentists check blood pressure. It is an important part of making sure your care is safe.
