Ready or not, turkey time is just around the corner. Days and nights will be filled with families gathered \u2018round enjoying cranberries, mashed potatoes, green beans, casseroles, dressing, buttered rolls, pumpkin pie and most importantly, turkey<\/b>. So as you\u2019re giving thanks for all that you\u2019ve been given this year, here are a few things to remember before you dig in!<\/p>\n

#1<\/b> Turkey is Good for Your Teeth<\/b><\/p>\n

The dental benefits<\/a> of turkey can be found in the fact that it is a great source of protein. Protein contains a small amount of phosphorus, which is great for your teeth when it\u2019s combined with calcium and vitamin D. This mixture is perfect for keeping your teeth nice and strong! So the next time you bite into a drumstick or turkey sandwich, remember that you\u2019re doing it for your teeth. (Wink, wink.<\/i>)<\/p>\n

#2 Saliva Is Your Friend<\/b><\/p>\n

When thinking about a perfectly cooked turkey or a slice of your grandma’s pumpkin pie, your mouth might start to water a little\u2014and that\u2019s a good thing! The saliva in your mouth will neutralize the acid and help return its pH level back to normal. Also, be sure to drink lots of water during the meal to help wash away the acids left over from the cranberries, pumpkin pie, and any other sweet treat that you had your fill of.<\/p>\n

#3 Give Your Mouth A Break<\/b><\/p>\n

After chowing down, you might want to run off to the bathroom so that you can scrub your chompers clean, but recent reports have suggested to give your mouth a break. The reason for this is all the acid and sugars that you\u2019ve just eaten are on the top layer of your gums and teeth. By brushing your teeth right then, you\u2019d be forcing all of the acid and sugar into your gums and teeth. Do yourself a favor and grab a glass of water to rinse your mouth out with and let the saliva do it\u2019s job. Just be sure to brush and floss before bed!<\/p>\n
