Should I see a cosmetic dentist?

Looking for an alternative to braces or maybe a whiter, brighter smile? Different dental procedures could help create the beautiful smile you are after. Many dentists can provide cosmetic dental work. However, the dentists at Little Rock Family Dental Care are specifically trained to safely and effectively provide the highest level of service. We take our patient testimonials seriously to ensure we maintain and exceed your expectations. Because each patient’s teeth are unique, we customize a cosmetic dental plan specific to the individual.

Are veneers right for me?

If you’re looking to lengthen, straighten, and whiten your teeth, our dental veneers could be for you. Each veneer is individually sculpted to best mimic the appearance of a natural tooth and enhance your overall smile. If you have gaps, minor overlapping, and twisted teeth, veneers can aid in these various types of tooth correction. Although the porcelain used to create the veneer is brittle, it becomes strong and durable when bonded to a tooth. Therefore, veneer maintenance should follow that of natural teeth with regular flossing and brushing.

How long does the process of getting veneers take?

Because this is a customized procedure, most veneer transformations take two to three office visits to complete. The first appointment will include preparing your teeth for veneers and placing temporary ones on your teeth.

The permanent veneer procedure begins with removing a small amount of the tooth’s enamel in order for the veneer to fit in the mouth in the most natural way possible. The original tooth and the veneer will have resin in between them in order to create a secure bond, both for appearance and function sake. Due to different levels of sensitivity, local injections are typically recommended.

Do veneers yellow over time?

No. Common liquids and foods that would stain natural teeth do not discolor or stain veneers, as the porcelain is a non-porous material. Nevertheless, maintaining a proper cleaning and maintenance routine is important.

Will I still get cavities if I have veneers?

Veneers do not increase the likelihood of getting cavities, providing that you are regularly flossing and brushing. To prevent decay over time, it is best to keep sugar consumption low.

Am I a candidate for enamel shaping?

If your teeth are slightly crowded, too long, or have rough spots/chips, enamel shaping may be a good cosmetic dental solution for you. Enamel shaping is typically done without numbing medication and should be pain-free. It is a quick procedure that provides instant results to enhance the appearance of your smile.

How does enamel shaping work?

The typical enamel shaping process starts with an x-ray to determine the thickness of enamel and location/amount of tooth pulp. The surface of the tooth is carefully contoured to achieve the best look, without damaging the tooth. Once the tooth is shaped, your cosmetic dentist will then polish it for a finished shine.

What is tooth bonding?

Tooth bonding is a cosmetic dental procedure used to repair cracked/chipped surfaces, fix tooth discoloration, close gaps between teeth, enhance shape, and repair decayed teeth. A tooth-colored resin is applied to correct the affected area. We take pride in giving you the best smile, which is why we carefully match the color of the bonding material to that of the surrounding teeth to provide a natural, healthy looking appearance.

What are the benefits of tooth bonding?

Tooth bonding is one of the most cost-effective and easy treatments in cosmetic dentistry. In most cases, little to no enamel is removed during the process, maintaining the natural structure of your tooth. Tooth bonding can be done in one visit, providing that there is only one tooth to service. The procedure typically takes 30 minutes to 1 hour without the use of anesthesia.

Does insurance cover cosmetic dental procedures?

Most insurance companies do not cover cosmetic dentist work, as they view it to be “unnecessary.” From the beginning, we will be upfront about the cost of each procedure in order to keep you fully informed before any work begins.
